2019 is off to a great start! Our National Trauma Data Bank study has been accepted and will publish in Injury.
In the time since the study was started, there has been significantly increased acceptance of the need for
scapula fracture fixation. We have presented at national meetings, published the longest outcome study ever conducted, and even hosted the first CME accredited surgical skills course for scapula fractures.
The NTDB study is a great foundation for understanding the population of scapula patients on a national level. Scapula fractures are difficult to identify in the initial trauma evaluation and the rising trend in scapula fractures and fractures resulting from falls, as indicated in our paper, will create an awareness for those evaluating these patients.
This knowledge will hopefully result in an increase in advanced imaging and early detection of injury for these patients.
